Chatham is one of the most centrally positioned communities in Columbia County, sitting along the Taconic State Parkway corridor between Hudson to the west and the Massachusetts border to the east. The town's position at the intersection of the Hudson Valley and the Berkshire foothills makes it a significant service hub for our Columbia County operations.

The housing in the Town of Chatham and the Village of Chatham reflects the community's agricultural history and its more recent role as a bedroom community for people who work in Albany, Hudson, and beyond. The village center has compact 19th-century residential streets alongside the commercial main street. The surrounding town has a mix of farmhouses dating to the 18th and 19th centuries, mid-20th century ranches, and newer construction that has filled in along the Route 66 corridor.

Chatham's position in the foothills means heating demands are meaningful — winters here are colder and snowier than points west toward the river, and reliable heating equipment is not optional. Fuel oil and propane are both common here, as natural gas service is limited outside the village center. We see a significant number of oil-to-heat-pump conversion projects in this area, where homeowners are seeking to reduce their dependence on heating oil and take advantage of the available NYS Clean Heat and NYSERDA incentives.

The train station in Chatham on the Amtrak line provides a connection that has drawn commuters from Albany and beyond, and the community has a mix of long-term rural residents and newer arrivals who have renovated older properties. Both groups are well represented in our Chatham customer base.
